Avocado Nursery Establishment at Muhezi Group

The Diocese of Same Development Department (DSDD) successfully facilitated the establishment of an avocado nursery at the Muhezi Group as part of its ongoing commitment to promoting sustainable agriculture, environmental conservation, and improved household incomes.

The activity involved training group members on the proper establishment and management of avocado nurseries, including site selection, seedling preparation, watering practices, pest and disease management, and routine nursery maintenance. These skills will enable farmers to produce healthy, high-quality seedlings for future orchard establishment and distribution within their communities.

The avocado nursery initiative is expected to increase the availability of improved planting materials, encourage fruit tree cultivation, and create new income-generating opportunities for farmers. In addition to enhancing nutrition through increased fruit production, avocado farming contributes to environmental conservation by improving tree cover and supporting climate resilience.
