SILC Training and Monitoring of Cinnamon Nursery Progress at Chalomba Group

The Diocese of Same Development Department (DSDD) conducted a Savings and Internal Lending Communities (SILC) training while also monitoring the progress of the cinnamon nursery plantation established by the Chalomba Group.

The SILC training focused on strengthening members’ understanding of effective savings and lending practices, financial discipline, record-keeping, and the importance of teamwork in building sustainable community-based financial groups. Participants were encouraged to continue saving regularly and responsibly managing loans to improve household incomes and strengthen their economic resilience.

Alongside the training, DSDD staff monitored the progress of the group’s cinnamon nursery, assessing seedling growth, nursery management practices, and overall maintenance. The visit provided an opportunity to offer technical guidance on proper watering, shading, weeding, pest management, and general nursery care to ensure the production of healthy, high-quality seedlings.

The combined activity reinforced DSDD’s commitment to promoting financial inclusion and sustainable agricultural development by empowering communities with the knowledge and skills needed to improve their livelihoods and build resilient farming enterprises.
