Training on Livestock Production and Participatory Guarantee System Conducted at Kifula

The Diocese of Same Development Department (DSDD) conducted a Training on Livestock Production and the Participatory Guarantee System (PGS) for farmers in Kifula to strengthen sustainable farming practices and improve agricultural productivity.

The livestock production session focused on best practices in animal husbandry, including proper feeding, disease prevention and control, housing, breeding, and general livestock management. Participants gained practical knowledge on improving animal health and increasing productivity to enhance household income and food security.

The training also introduced farmers to the Participatory Guarantee System (PGS), highlighting its role in assuring the quality and integrity of organically produced products through a locally based, participatory certification approach. Farmers learned the principles of PGS, the importance of compliance with agreed standards, record-keeping, peer inspections, and the benefits of producing safe, high-quality products that can access premium markets.

The interactive sessions encouraged knowledge sharing and practical learning, empowering farmers to integrate sustainable livestock production with quality assurance practices.
