Africa Wildlife Management Versus TPW – Tanzania People and Wildlife

The Diocese of Same Development Department (DSDD) participated in a session focusing on Africa Wildlife Management in comparison with the approach used by Tanzania People & Wildlife (TPW). The discussion aimed at sharing experiences and strategies that support both community livelihoods and wildlife conservation.

During the session, participants explored several important areas related to sustainable land use and peaceful coexistence between people and wildlife.

1. Rangeland Management and Human–Wildlife Coexistence
Participants discussed the importance of sustainable rangeland management to ensure the availability of pasture for livestock while also protecting wildlife habitats. Proper land management practices help communities and wildlife live together in a balanced ecosystem.

2. Human–Wildlife Conflict Resolution
The session highlighted different strategies used to reduce conflicts between communities and wild animals. These include community awareness, improved livestock protection methods, and collaborative efforts between conservation organizations and local communities.

3. Pasture Restoration Management
Another key topic was the restoration of degraded grazing areas. Participants learned about methods used to restore pasture and improve soil fertility, which helps pastoral communities maintain productive grazing land while protecting the environment.

The discussion provided valuable insights into how community-based conservation approaches can strengthen the relationship between people, livestock, and wildlife while promoting sustainable development.
